Our permanent building.
Planning permission for our permanent building was submitted to Fingal County Council on March 21st and we are currently waiting for the council to make a decision. Planning Permission for the Secondary School was submitted at the same time and we are delighted to hear that their planning permission has been granted. A decision about our planning application is due on 25th of May. Fingal County Council have received one objection to our application. It is from a Property Developer who owns land north of the school site and the objection is based on a concern that the increased traffic on the Beaverstown Road as a result of the school will impact on their proposed development for 9 houses.
The planners are obliged to take this objection into consideration before making their decision. I feel optimistic that this objection will not be upheld as the planners are well aware that there will be increased traffic on the Beaverstown Road and there have been a number of pre planning meetings between the Department of Education and Fingal County Council.
On a more positive note myself and Micheál had the pleasure of visiting Le Chéile (Drogheda Educate Together) at the official opening of their school last Friday. Their building is very similar to ours and we were really impressed. We were also thrilled to hear that front start to finish the school was ready in 6 months. The Department of Education believe that we will move into our new building in Spring 2011 – we remain hopeful!
This summer we will add an additional classroom to our existing prefabs, this extra classroom is needed to accommodate our growing numbers, we expect to have 450 pupils this September. Hopefully 2010/2011 will be our last academic year in temporary accommodation.
